APAC Webinar: Supporting Children Through Grief Part I: Understanding Childhood Grief and Loss
In this first webinar of a two-part series, we will discuss the various types of childhood loss to illuminate the many "hidden grievers" among us. The presenter will share frameworks for conceptualizing the grieving process and bring these frameworks to life through sharing stories of children and families who have received services through the Good Grief Program. The webinar will provide an overview of grief reactions commonly seen in children as well as identify factors that can influence the grieving process. Participants will be asked to consider both the primary and secondary losses that children encounter after a significant loss.
• Identify different types of childhood loss
• Explore frameworks for conceptualizing the grieving process
• Recognize typical childhood grief reactions
• Name factors that influence the grieving process
Maureen Patterson-Fede, LICSW is a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker who brings years of working with children and families to her work with the Good Grief Program. She has worked with families in a variety of settings including domestic violence shelters, Children's Advocacy Centers, clinic-based settings, and home-based work.
