Program Purpose

Preparing and reinforcing the path to forever families

Overview

APAC is a statewide program designed to empower adoptive families facing adoption challenges and to facilitate stronger bonds and interaction within all adoptive families. APAC is a collaborative effort between Children's Aid Society and the Alabama Department of Human Resources.

APAC Services are available to all adoptive and kinship guardianship family members. Some services are also available to foster family members, prospective adoptive families, kinship care families and professionals working with the foster/adoptive population. Statewide services are provided out of four APAC offices located in Birmingham, Montgomery, Huntsville and Mobile.

Preparing to Adopt

APAC actively recruits prospective families for children in foster care who are waiting to be adopted. We provide several services to help families that are adopting from foster care.

  • Are you considering adoption? Recruitment & training are a vital part of achieving permanency for children in foster care who are waiting to be adopted. APAC provides full support to all prospective waiting families.

  • The largest adoption library in the state of Alabama. Resources can be checked out online and shipped anywhere in Alabama.

  • Opportunities are provided throughout the year to train professionals and families who work directly with the youth and families we serve. Find an training that fits your needs with conferences, webinars, and an extensive adoption resource library.

  • Information & Referral

    Our statewide toll-free line, 866-803-2722, and website will support you in finding answers to your adoption-related questions. Information & referral services are available to adoptive, foster, kinship care, and prospective adoptive families, as well as the professionals who serve them.

  • Family Advocates

    Intensive education and support is provided to pre-adoptive families awaiting a child match, planning for placement, and adjusting to the new adoptive family circle. A team approach is provided by an APAC Family Advocate and Adoption Coach.

Adoptive Family Services

Adoption is a lifelong journey and APAC is here for you along the way through a variety of post-adoption services.

  • The largest adoption library in the state of Alabama. Resources can be checked out online and shipped anywhere in Alabama.

  • Opportunities are provided throughout the year to train professionals and families who work directly with the youth and families we serve. Find an training that fits your needs with conferences, webinars, and an extensive adoption resource library.

  • APAC special events are provided as information networking opportunities for adoptive families to get acquainted and be supported by one another. Parents and children meet, share, and have a great time!

  • APAC offers support groups that meet throughout the state, providing education and social interaction for adoptive families.

  • APAC provides statewide counseling to help with family adjustment and crisis counseling.

  • Camp that serves children adopted from foster care and their siblings.

  • Join our Facebook group, "APAC Adoption Support Network!" It is available for all adoptive parents living in Alabama. This closed (and private) group, is a great place for parents to connect and share resources and information with one another.

  • Mentor families offer a peer relationship to an adoptive family needing support.

Training & Resources

Training is important to support adoptive & foster families, as well as the professional who support them. CAS offers ongoing training and continuing education through conferences, webinars, and on-site training.
