Birth Parent & Adult Adoptee Support Group

Birth Parent & Adult Adoptee support group meeting facilitated by social worker, Audrey Derevenko. Family and supportive friends are also welcome to attend.

Birth Parents
A birth parent support group is intended to offer support and an opportunity to talk with others and exchange information. For many, a support group is one of the few places where everyone understands the birth parent's point of view and people express their feelings openly. It is an environment in which you can tell your stories and hear about other people's experiences.

Adult Adoptees
Many of today's adult adopted persons grew up during a time when issues were not discussed, and in some cases, not even acknowledged. Issues commonly addressed by today's adoptive parents and adoption professionals, such as identity, attachment, and challenging histories, were often taboo. As secrets and silence have fallen by the wayside (not only in adoption but in society in general), adult adopted persons are coming together to compare lives, seek support and guidance, and more generally seek acknowledgment of their experiences.
