Camp Life

Each summer, we host two camps for up to 200 Independent Living youth 14-20 years of age. Activities of the camp will build self-confidence, team work, positive peer and adult connections and independent living skills. Youth will participate in closely supervised activities within their small group such as team building activities, swimming, public speaking opportunities, basketball, and other positive social interactive activities. All camp activities will provide opportunities for campers to develop relationships with their peers and other group members.

Camp Life 2017

In 2017, Camp Life will be held at the University of Alabama at Birmingham in Birmingham, AL. We will be residing in the brand new freshman dorm. Campers will experience a fun and safe environment on a college campus! Camp Life provides a unique opportunity for young people in foster care who otherwise aren't given this type of experience outside of their foster and / or group home.

This year's theme is S.T.A.N.D., Stay Tru and Never Deviate. Young people in foster care are encouraged to take a stand for themselves and be comfortable with who they are.

The qualities we look for include, boundless enthusiasm, putting others before self, sensitivity to camper needs, willingness to work, dedication and loyalty. Prior experience in a camp setting is not a requirement for working as part of our team, however it is a bonus. Working with children in professional settings, teaching skills, and certifications are also assets to your application.

You must be 19 years old or older prior to March 28, 2017 to apply. Also, thorough background checks are completed on all applicants in compliance with State requirements.
